Dear Governor Brownback,
Common Core is not the instrument to raise student achievement in Kansas. It removes local control, it is not field tested, and it is not internationally benchmarked. Common Core affects all students – whether in public schools, private schools, parochial schools or home schools.
The Common Core standards are copyrighted and owned by private organizations outside the state of Kansas. Kansas does not have the power to change or delete the standards.
Students will succeed when parents and teachers have more influence than federal bureaucracies and big business. If we are to be a free nation of self-governing people then local control of schools must be restored! Please withdraw our state from Common Core and the national agenda for education.
